New Concerns With Renewed Development At Rocky Flats, CO

Rocky Flats, CO Pu-239 Plume

Rocky Flats Pu-239 Plume From Wikipedia, per CO state dept of public health

Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge was once a nuclear weapons production facility. It experienced several accidents, the worst of which was a Plutonium-239 fire in 1957.

In response to massive public outcry, it was eventually raided and shut down by the FBI and the EPA. It was declared a Superfund site and cleaned up, but in order to save costs, the underground contamination was never cleaned up.

Now developers want to disturb the soil and develop the area regardless of the cancers that the Plutonium-239 disturbance will cause.
